Jinny Lind

Beitrag von xeriscape8321 » 15.03.2011, 15:15

This is Jinny Lind. A brugmansia from hybridizer JT Sessions. I've had this plant for quite a few years but pushed it to the back of the yard and never really paid much attention to it. When i found it again it was 8 feet tall, had Y'd and had a small bud on it.
The cross on this one is a bit tricky. It's either Rubirosa x L'amour or Rubiline x L'amour….The hybridizer JT Sessions lists it as a true Rubirosa cross.

At this point I don't care. The result is a beautiful cultivar with heavy Aurea influences. The fragrance is light but pleasant. Blooms are waxy which makes it a great warm climate brug.

This is the first bloom but she has already (as you can see from one of the pics below) begun to set enough new buds for a flush within the next couple of weeks. JT reports Jinny Lind to be a heavy bloomer...which will be nice...it took 3 days for the bloom to fully color up, finally settling in to a nice dark pink...I have crossed her with Samba Dancer

Gary, it is a very pretty flower.

It was already discussed at ABADS, if it is the true Rubirosa or not; all I am able to say, that only one person knows the truth. It is that person that wrote me,  that the cuttings (Charleston and Rubirosa) did not make it.

I do have another cross which should bloom this year that i grew from seed, It is most definitely  a "Rubiline" cross because Delisa Harvey was very specific when she labeled the seed packet  that this is a Pink Smitty x Rubiline cross. I still have not seen it bloom so we will have to wait and see what it looks.

Since the Rubiline are F1 - hybrids, the flowers of all of them are very similar but not in growth and flowering. Some of them flower in large flushes while others tend to vigorous growth but less flowering.

The hybrids out of this cross, which always flower in large flushes are Gartenzauber, Inkarose, Rubirosa and Ruby Lady.  I am not sure about Everlasting Ruby.

I got the best offspring when using Rubirosa for hybridizing.

Pink Smitty's pollen parent is a sibling of Rubirosa. It will be interesting to know, what the inbreeding on the Rubiline will produce.
