Alistair hat geschrieben:Wayne Carter and I have been collecting 'Knightii' from various places in Australia, and there seem to be at least two almost identical clones, one very slightly superior to the other(s) in that it has slightly larger flowers and slightly more velvety leaves when they are grown in identical conditions. I will use it as you suggest!
Cross pollination of the two will make it clear, if they are identical clones or not.

I will do that. It will make an interesting nomenclatural question if they are different.

It is technically acceptable to have a cultivar with more than one clone within it, and I doubt that different clones of 'Knightii' could ever be separated out and recognized world-wide in a consistent way!

The first step I would do is to pollinate TuTu with pollen of the australian doubles to find out, if one of them is identical with TuTu. The second step is to find more clones in England to cross pollinate them with TuTu.

I have a wild double and looks just like Knightii with the very fuzzy leaf that was brought to US from Mexico. It seems to have a more stuffed flower than the nursery type Knightii. Since I am so close to the border of Mexico, it's easy and often to get such wild forms. I have crossed a couple of them with Goldenes Kornett with results. More to come later when I have blooms! :)
